DC is releasing a series of Black Adam prequel one-shots, one of which stars Hawkman, prior to the release of the upcoming Dwayne Johnson film. Dwayne Johnson’s upcoming Black Adam is getting a series of prequel one-shots, one of which features Hawkman, prior to the film’s October release.
According to The Beat, DC will release a series of one-shots that serve as a prequel to the upcoming Black Adam film. These one-shots will focus on different members of the Justice Society who appear in Black Adam. Along with Johnson as the titular hero, Black Adam will see Aldis Hodge play Hawkman, Pierce Brosnan play Doctor Fate, Noah Centineo play Atom-Smasher and Quintessa Swindell play Cyclone.
Black Adam – The Justice Society Files: Hawkman releases first in July. The 48-page issue comes from Cavan Scott, Scot Eaton and Norm Rapmund, with a secondary feature by Bryan Q. Miller and Marco Santucci that follows Adrianna Tomaz/Isis, who will also appear in the film. The synopsis reads, “Long ago, Hawkman was the leader of the Justice Society, but what is he now? Still a hero, or another relic in a museum? Everything changes when he finds himself haunted by not only the past, but also the vengeful spirit of a wayward thief. Will this Gentleman Ghost be the death of Hawkman or will he deliver a warning from beyond the grave? The road to Black Adam begins here.
Also in this issue: As a pivotal moment in the life of Teth-Adam and his son Hurut begins to unfold in ancient Kahndaq, modern-day Kahndaq meets a new hero—antiquities professor by day, ‘cultural recovery specialist’ by night, Adrianna Tomaz. And unfortunately for Adrianna, she’s about to ‘liberate’ a sacred totem from the wrong interested party—Intergang!”
Black Adam is a spinoff of 2019’s Shazam! that’s directed by Jungle Cruise’s Jaume Collet-Serra. While the plot still mostly remains unknown at this time, DC did provide a first look at some members of the Justice Society in a “The World Needs Heroes” promotional video that was posted leading up to the release of The Batman. “You have Dwayne [Johnson], who’s at the pinnacle of his fame and fortune and success and popularity,” Brosnan said in a previous interview. “He is magnificent as Black Adam. We are the Justice Society and there are four of us, so we became a strong quartet of actors.”
In addition to the one-shot prequel series, Black Adam will also get his own solo series from Christopher Priest and artist Rafa Sandoval that launches in June. Black Adam – The Justice Society Files: Hawkman will arrive in July.
The Black Adam film is currently scheduled for release on Oct. 21.
